Introduction

Wall Mounted Fume Extractors provide the ultimate flexibility for removing process fumes and dust. Designed to filter contaminants and exhaust clean air, FX-WM Wall Mounted Fume Extractors feature a powerful blower that delivers maximum airflow at the extraction point.

The FX-WM Series is modular and can be configured in several different ways to meet the demands of your specific industrial application. Exhaust options include ducting the unit to directly exhaust fumes outdoors or to a larger dust collection system, or filtering the air back into the environment. The unit can support up to two fume arms of various sizes.

Additionally, a spark trap can be added in combination with the filter for added protection against sparks reaching the filter.

Step 1: Select a Motor Base

A motor base is the main component of the system and is required. By default, the motor base can be ducted directly outside. Be sure to select a base that matches your electrical requirements.

All bases are made of a heavy gauge powder coated steel shell and come with wall mounting brackets, a ducting collar, and basic Start/Stop controls with a 12’ cord and wall-plug (voltage-specific).

Motor Base Specifications

SKU Motor Airflow Input Power Arm Options
FX-WM-2HP-1PH-115/230V KIT 2 HP 1600 CFM 115v/1/60Hz (120v or 240v) (2) 6" dia. arms or (1) 8" dia. arm

Weights & Dimensions

Specification Value
Gross Weight 209 lbs
Net Weight 145 lbs
Dimensions 32" x 23" x 20"
Packaged Dimensions 37" x 30" x 28"

Step 2: Add Fume Arms

You must select at least one hanging fume arm, but the unit can support up to two arms, allowing one system to serve two separate stations. Built from durable steel, fume arms stay in place without drooping and deliver wide reach to capture fumes at the source.

This unit supports the following configurations:

  • (1) 6" diameter arm
  • (1) 8" diameter arm
  • (2) 6" diameter arms
  •

6" Diameter Arms (up to 2 per blower)

SKU Arm Diameter Arm Length Hood Diameter CFM
FX-HA-0607 6" 7’ 13" 525–750 CFM
FX-HA-0610 6" 10’ 13" 525–750 CFM
FX-HA-0614 6" 14’ 13" 525–750 CFM

8" Diameter Arms (up to 2 per blower)

SKU Arm Diameter Arm Length Hood Diameter CFM
FX-HA-0807 8" 7’ 13" 750–1200 CFM
FX-HA-0810 8" 10’ 13" 750–1200 CFM
FX-HA-0814 8" 14’ 13" 750–1200 CFM

Note: All hood diameters are 13" regardless of arm diameter or arm length.

Step 3: Add Filtration (Optional)

Can’t exhaust outside? Adding a filter kit to your wall mounted fume extractor allows you to return clean air to your space. This eliminates the need to create a wall or roof penetration, reducing installation cost, and also allows you to retain tempered air, resulting in year-round energy savings.

Available Filter Options

SKU Description Efficiency Best For
FX-WM-NFFR Cellulose/polyester nanofiber MERV 15 Dry dust
FX-WM-NFFR-13 Cellulose/polyester nanofiber MERV 15 Dry dust, short ceilings
FX-WM-SBNF Spunbond nanofiber MERV 15 Oily, abrasive materials
FX-WM-HEPA HEPA 99.97% @ 0.3 microns Toxic fumes

Ducted vs. Filtered: Which Is Right for You?

Ducted systems exhaust dirty air out of your space. This is an excellent choice for minimizing maintenance costs (no filters to change), but does not allow you to retain tempered air. Additionally, installation may be more expensive as it necessitates a wall or roof penetration to exhaust the air.

Filtered (ductless) systems capture, filter, and recirculate air back into your space. Because there is no need for a wall or roof penetration, installation is cheaper and simpler. Plus, retaining air in your space can result in major savings on heating and cooling — an important consideration when weighing the cost of periodic filter changes.

Step 4: Add Spark Protection (Optional)

Are sparks a concern? Effectively contain sparks and reduce the risk of fire while extending the life of your equipment.

Two types of spark protection are available and can be used independently or together for maximum safety:

  • Mesh Spark Protectors attach at the hood to capture sparks close to the source.
  • Inline Spark Traps capture sparks right before they reach the filter.

SKU Description Compatible With
FXP-ARM-SPKPR-06 Mesh spark protector 6" dia. fume arms
FXP-ARM-SPKPR-08 Mesh spark protector 8" dia. fume arms
FXO-WM-SPRKTRP Inline spark trap (includes aluminum mesh pre-filter FX-WM-ALPF) All configurations
FX-WM-HEPA HEPA 99.97% @ 0.3 microns

FAQs: Wall Mount Fume Extractors

What is the airflow capacity of the FX-WM Series blower?

The FX-WM Series blower delivers 1600 CFM of airflow powered by a 2 HP motor. It operates on 115v/1/60Hz power, compatible with both 120v and 240v single-phase service.

How many fume arms can one FX-WM unit support?

One FX-WM blower can support up to two 6" diameter fume arms, or one 8" diameter fume arm. This allows a single system to serve two separate workstations simultaneously.

What is the difference between the 6" and 8" fume arms?

The 6" arms move 525–750 CFM of air each and can be used in pairs (two per blower). The 8" arms move 750–1200 CFM and are limited to one per blower. Both sizes are available in 7’, 10’, and 14’ lengths and all have a 13" hood diameter.

Do I need a filter if I can duct the unit outside?

No. Ducted configurations exhaust fumes directly outdoors and require no filter, eliminating filter replacement costs. However, ducted systems require a wall or roof penetration for installation, which can increase upfront installation costs.

Which filter should I choose for welding fumes?

For toxic welding fumes, the FX-WM-HEPA filter (99.97% efficiency at 0.3 microns) is the recommended option. For general dry dust, the MERV 15 nanofiber filters (FX-WM-NFFR or FX-WM-NFFR-13) are excellent. For oily or abrasive materials, choose the spunbond nanofiber filter (FX-WM-SBNF).

When should I add spark protection?

Spark protection is recommended for any application involving welding, grinding, plasma cutting, or other processes that generate sparks. Mesh spark protectors at the hood prevent sparks from entering the arm, while the inline spark trap provides a second line of defense before the filter. Both can be used together for maximum protection.

Can the FX-WM Series be used for robotic welding applications?

Yes. The modular design and dual-arm capability make the FX-WM Series well-suited for robotic welding cells. Contact the FumeXtractors team for detailed configuration guidance for automated or robotic applications.

What does the FX-WM kit include?

The motor base kit includes the heavy gauge powder coated steel shell, a flanged duct connection, wall mounting brackets, basic Start/Stop controls, and a 12’ cord and wall-plug (voltage-specific). Fume arms, filter kits, and spark protection are selected separately to customize the system for your specific needs.
